Just picked up a 2003 Suzuki GZ 250 for the Little Lady to learn on. Everything checked out pretty solid, only has a little over 3400 miles on the clock: Doesn't look to be a bad Starter Bike at all. Clutch, Throttle and Brakes seem very forgiving. Of course. now I got to go through everything and change it all. But she's worth it!

Good looking bike. I'm still trying to convince my fiancee to learn to ride. I keep getting the "everyone will laugh if I make a mistake" excuse.

Going back and forth and back again. But the stark reality of life with me is that if she wouldn't give me a backrest to ride with, she was going to be alone quite a bit. Hell, I just got divorced and the conflict about me riding had something to do with it. Jimmy Tin was right. Baby steps. I think once she builds up her confidence, things will get a lot better. I want her out there with me so this is a good thing! I mean, after all:

I want her out there with me so this is a good thing! I mean, after all: View AttachmentI've managed to get as far as having Shannon sit at the controls and get the bike off the side stand a couple times. The '81 CB 650 I had as a starter was a bit too tall. She was on her toes with it up. She was ok with it's weight though. Then I had her on the Marauder. On the stock shocks she struggles with the weight a little but can be flat footed with room to move a bit in the seat. Now with the air ride at full compression she had no trouble at all getting it off the stand. I've been telling her I'm looking for maybe a 450-500cc for her a starter bike, haven't had any argument about it either. It is one of the dilemmas that I want her out with me and usually it's fine being 2 up. However sometimes I get the urge to be a little aggressive in the corners and would much rather be solo in case something went wrong.

Sign those gals up for a MSF Basic Rider Course...and take the course with them even if you have taken it before. It makes for a fun and educational weekend.
Even though I already had my motorcycle license for over 40 years at the time, that's what I did with my son several years ago when he wanted to start riding. The bikes they use there will be a lighter weight and easier to handle for a newbie.
I had a fun time taking the MSF course and actually learned quite a few things.
