Good God I do love my Meanie. Does just about everything well except for one thing: Long distance cruising at high speeds. Couple that with the fact that the Redhead is going home with Speed after Maggie Valley for some tune-up work, and I was faced with no Bike for a while.
The cure, of course, is to add another scoot to the garage. So that's just exactly what I did. I looked at CraigsList and CycleTrader and a few other used Bike services and finally came across this little Beauty:
2011 Raider 1900 with 2900 miles on her. Had a friend go up and check it out, he said she looked brand new. Was told a Lady bought it, but couldn't handle it...too big. The hubby was intending to ride it, but he really just loves sport bikes. So here she was. I worked the guy for a couple of weeks since used Raiders with really low miles are hot as hell right now. This gal love to run, really comes alive above 50 and feels like she could roll easily at 70-90 all day long with little vibration or fuss.
Handling at first was different, and the Meanie is a more stable platform than this one. But once you get used to the differences, you can still run some very spirited curves in this one. However, the Meanie is clearly superior in handling corners and transitions to the Raider. The Meanie also has more fun running up to redline even thought the Raider almost yawns as it kicking your ass to the back of the seat. HOWEVER, this assessment will change dramatically when Speed is done tuning the Meanie up. The Meanie should even be a more capable long distance cruiser then as well.
So the plan once they're all safely tucked in the garage is to use the Meanie sparingly. It will be my showcase Bike and the one I bring out for Meets and special occasions. The Raider gives me a great 1-2 punch. She's a tremendous machine and Yamaha's fit and finish on this thing is second to none.
Welcome to the Land of the Redheads!
