Welcome, Bart. Mine's also a 2002 undergoing a bit of work at the moment. You can use the Tapatalk phone app to reply and upload pictures, or if you click the blue & white "Reply" button at the right of the "Quick Reply" title bar there will be an other button to "Add Attachment" along with more editing features. That's what I do because I just don't type as fast with my thumbs as with all my fingers

Bikers, as a rule, are great people with integrity and respect. There are a few who let their enthusiasm spill overboard from time-to-time though.......

What's up crew?? Name is Max, met a bunch of great guys that are here from the other forum. Glad to be part of this forum, thanks Colin & James. I'm 48, married, couple kids and been riding street since high school, dirt bikes before that. Previous stable scoots...87 EX 500, GSXR 750, Honda 919, Eliminator 900 and now the Mean Streak 1600. Love the Streak, love to ride and met a great group of these dudes in upstate NY couple summers ago on a group meet up. You know who you are! Good times if you plan on riding Maggie Valley with Speed, JimmyTin, Steam and Bluestreaker. Great guys, good times, shit ton of laughs and quality riding. Can't make this years trip, I have prior commitments that week, jealous for sure.
Again, glad to be here, ride safe and keep it on two wheels.

Max, I'm in Bennington, north edge of the Monadnock region. Would love to get together and go riding. Never quite as happy as I am on the Meanie into the wind. BTW, your black assassin Meanie looks really sharp.

Hello from another Newbie - pointed this way by Texas - thanks for the sign up. I bought a Meanie frame and forks so I'm going the do-it-yourself method for getting my Meanie. The frame has been shot blasted and powder coated in Persimmon and looks great. I've managed to get front and rear SE style fenders and I'm slowly sourcing the rest of the bits and pieces I need. I expect I'll find plenty of questions along the way so I think I'll be a regular here and annoy people with my newbie questions :-) Here's one to start off - since I'm building from scratch I have the motor in pieces to check everything over properly before building. This would be a good time to do some basic mods, one of which I'm thinking about is the use of 1500 piston rods in the engine. I assume the idea is to get the compression ratio up but I assume that longer rods mean I need shorter pistons - am I right? If yes, can someone tell me the method for this mod? What's the amount that needs to come off the pistons? Any other gotchas with this method? Would you still run with the KACR mechanism at higher compressions? (I chucked the KACR when I rebuilt my old BUBF engine and never had any trouble starting) Many thanks! I'll post pictures when I get some, I don't collect the frame etc until end of March (Payday!) Ok, here is a little bit of info. 1600 rods are 6.975", 1500 are 7.075 Due to the .200 longer stroke of the 1600 they have shorter rods. If you want to use the 1500 rods in a 1600, which I have done, yes you will need a shorter piston so to speak. This is called compression height. Stock pistons both 1500 and 1600 are around 1.175", I use a 1.090" when using 1500 rods. Also I have the rod small end bushed for.927 Piston pin. Stock pins are .944. I use a Piston with .927 pin. Next builds I am using stock size pins, will resize Piston pin bore. When using 1500 rods in a 1500 or 1600 rods in 1600 I use a 1.187 compression height Piston. I adjust the deck height by different thickness base gaskets. I run my own pretty close but I try to get the Piston deck height around .038 in the hole, this along with the .007 thickness head gasket works well. Stock pistons have a 27cc dish, I like to use a Piston with around 6 cc dish or valve pockets. I use pistons with zero dish on some. My personal engine is close to 14:1. You are safe on pump 93 gas with 6 cc pistons at above deck height.

Glad you made it over too, MassMax.
