Yeah, I saw that. On the Meanstreak FB page I was impressed by the amount of Indian haters there seem to be. Just can not understand that at all.

Indian is one of my favorite looking bikes. Would rather have an Indian than a Harley but thats just me going against the grain lol. I have ridden both of their cruisers Indian and Harley and I liked the Indian a lot. Only thing in my opinion Harley has going for it is the amount of aftermarket parts that are available for it.

Don't hate Indians, just don't like the style. Don't like victory's either but that's just me. I think big problems at Polaris.

Harley is losing money, Victory is gone, Yamaha will not be producing anymore V Twins, ... Kawi ? .... nope.
It is a trend that I noted a few years ago. Sports bikes are taking over.
Who rides V Twins ? Old guys for the most part. When you think of a 25 year old on a bike, what kind of bike you envision them on ? Probably not a V Twin.
Sure there are hard core younger V Twin riders, but the V Twin is a dying breed. When the baby boomers are gone, ... so are the V Twins ...... IMO

All these youngsters grow up and start looking for something classier, more comfortable and still sporty. Not to mention capable of taking 6-10 hour trips without grinding your spleen into cheesecake. Gotta believe there will always be a market for sophisticated V-Twins. The few people I even know who drive the upmarket Indians absolutely love them, wouldn't think of riding anything else. So I don't know..... PS Even though I couldn't afford it, I did test ride an Indian Scout. That is one fine machine I would have bought in a heartbeat had I the funds.

Who's going to make them ?
How many 25 year olds do you see riding new Harleys/Indians/Victories, ... not many compared to the 25 year olds riding crotch rockets.
It is exactly what you said, ..... if you had the cash. Who has the most disposable income/cash ? 50 year olds or 25 year olds?
By the time the 25 year olds are 50, there will not be any new V Twins around.

Been that way for years. Always be a market for vtwins. IMO Who's going to make new V Twins ? If the market was there, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki would not be in the process of eliminating them from their line up(s). Will there be a market ? .... Sure ! Just an extremely narrow new market (if any). Harley (maybe, they are losing big $ and have been for years. I posted the link on your old site, ... their stock is down, ... their loans are big). So who is going to make new V Twins if Harley goes tits up ? After Harley, Victory was the closest to being successful I think. I don't think the Indians ever had a chance. So who's left ?

I didn't say that.
I asked you who will be building new V Twins.
There aren't many companies building them now. And one of the remaining companies that were building them just announced they won't be.

Personally I dont think the cruiser will ever stop being produced, they may change the engine but the cruiser is here to stay. How else would us old farts carry all of our stuff lol. Harley will be around, they may reorganize and cut down the number of dealerships but they will be here and over time the Japanese bikes will start making cruisers again if they ever actually stop producing them. There will always be a market for cruisers as long as the 25 year olds survive their crotch rockets they will gravitate towards the cruiser, sport bikes just are not comfortable enough for old guys with bad knees.

Hey, I like V Twins, .... I have 2 in my garage. But I can see the writing on the wall.
Victory is gone, and they had this under their belt - 2016 Motorcycle of the Year Victory Motorcycles Victory Magnum
Polaris also owns Indian. It won't be long until they are gone as well (IMO).
Look at the models available from each company, .... V Twins are outnumbered 4 - 5 to 1. So you tell me where the market is.

Harvey's non-cruiser models sell miniscule #'so next to the cruisers. I don't think your vision is completely off...just too pessimistic. There is still a large and viable cruiser market out there. It might shrink some, but I highly doubt it disappears.

Go ride, don't worry my friend, hell your not going to buy a new scoot anyway. Lol.

Also Polaris took a hit with the ignorant slingshot, so I think they are shedding some debt and will rebadge some of the better selling ones. Who knows don't care anything Polaris has anyway.. This only helps the other few mfg and it's all a US been just a few, Polaris is basically an upstart new brand. The others are veterans so to speak. Hey Phil you still have the 1500 ecu I sold you? I will buy it back?

I will buy it back? If you go look at the Indian vs Victory sales numbers, the reason Polaris did what they did is simple, plain and apparent. Indian is growing like gangbusters and that's a fact. Victory was dying on the vine. Given Indian's growth in the past 2 years, you can't even make a legitimate financial argument for it being put out to pasture as well. You've got the fastest growing Cruiser Brand in your portfolio and a Cruiser Brand retracting in on itself. If you were Polaris you'd do the same thing they just did. Now they are free to put all their resources behind Indian (which is turning a very nice profit tank you very much) and go Harley head-hunting. I don't think this move is a negative at all once I dissected the sales numbers. PS. I did go into MOM'S of Manchester to look used bikes this past Summer. Some salesguy talked me into taking a test ride of the Scout with ABS even thought I didn't have the money or the intention of buying one. That Scout was one very impressive machine. It was fast, handled well and seemed tight as hell. If I had the budget I would have bought that thing. Now, I'm even happier I didn't because the Meanie came along and I had to have that thing after one ride. But the Scout is a tremendously good and decent machine. I haven't been on any of their upmarket Cruisers and Baggers, but the technology and engines they use seem rock solid. I sure as hell would love to ride a Raider now having seen what Phil has. They look even more Badass.

I'm sure it makes sense financially, Polaris isn't the kind of company that can sustain multiple competing brands like GM (and GM cut some off as well recently).
I think it's unfortunate that Victory didn't do better. Based on demo rides I far preferred the Victory to the Indian, but as I'm not in the market for a new bike it doesn't matter which I liked.

Having worked at a Victory/Polaris/Suzuki dealership in the shop for a little while I had gained much respect for the Victory line of bikes. I had wanted a highball for the longest because it's one of the few cruisers that fit me right off the show room floor( I'm 6'3" with a 36" inseam ), they are not without their faults though. It was the Victorys that made me decide switch from crotch rockets to cruisers, they had a style about them, and they weren't a Harley. I guess I'm one of the younger here being 35 but I can see a trend of vtwin slowing but not going away completely. From what I see the younger guys are wanting the vintage custom bikes, weather it's an old inline twin like the Yamaha XS650 turned into a bobber or even the Honda 750 bobbed or turned into a cafe racer but there will always the ones who want a vtwin. As for me I am happy with my marauder, and in the future I will be looking at a touring bike for long trips. If victory isn't there I'll go to Indian.

Yep, I don't think I'll be missing out much. The V-Twin line won't be going away, just changing. It does seem like I've been seeing some more vintage-style bikes like the Triumph. There are a couple of those just where I work, plus an Indian, couple of HD's, and Hondas.

When I first started looking this past year, I sure had a hankerin' for a Norton Commando 850. Friend of mine back in the early 70's had one and it was a blast to drive. But then I drove a V-Twin.
