Hello from another Newbie - pointed this way by Texas - thanks for the sign up.
I bought a Meanie frame and forks so I'm going the do-it-yourself method for getting my Meanie. The frame has been shot blasted and powder coated in Persimmon and looks great. I've managed to get front and rear SE style fenders and I'm slowly sourcing the rest of the bits and pieces I need.
I expect I'll find plenty of questions along the way so I think I'll be a regular here and annoy people with my newbie questions :-)
Here's one to start off - since I'm building from scratch I have the motor in pieces to check everything over properly before building. This would be a good time to do some basic mods, one of which I'm thinking about is the use of 1500 piston rods in the engine. I assume the idea is to get the compression ratio up but I assume that longer rods mean I need shorter pistons - am I right? If yes, can someone tell me the method for this mod? What's the amount that needs to come off the pistons? Any other gotchas with this method? Would you still run with the KACR mechanism at higher compressions? (I chucked the KACR when I rebuilt my old BUBF engine and never had any trouble starting)
Many thanks!
I'll post pictures when I get some, I don't collect the frame etc until end of March (Payday!)

Hello All,
Currently I'm building up a meanstreak - I have a 2003 VN1600 MS frame and forks plus various other parts.
I also have a VN1500 engine from 1999.
My question is whether I can use the barrels and liners from a VN1600 on the VN1500 engine casings. Obviously I'll need to swap out the crankshaft and pistons/piston con-rods too but the question is really more as to whether I can physically do this.
Part numbers only get me so far but looking at it so far I can't see any reason why I couldn't do this. Has anyone here used VN1600 on the VN1500 casing?
Thanks!
