Why is it that some seem to prefer the Marauder headlamp over the stock MS version, are there any meaningful differences? (meaning more than just the looks) At this point I don't know which to go for, I quite like both. The Marauder version kind of reminds me of the Martian probe neck thingy from the 1953 War or the Worlds film (in a good way, I loved that film as a kid) What's the majority view on this topic?

Same here. I doubt there's any functional difference.

Why am I always the odd ball out??? I like the Mean Streak light but it really would not matter as they both do the same thing.

I prefer the marauder headlight, it's partially why I bought a marauder, that and I found one for a good price.

This is one of those questions for which I have no preference. Had you asked Brunette or Blonde, well, I'd start a book. With lots of pictures. And a play-along audio tape for Jimmy Tin.

The Meanie headlight is a good looking headlight but has a flat face. I like the Marauder headlight better because of the cat-eye look from the front and the slant look from the side. I also like the look of a VTX headlight especially the side profile... Especially if you're going to two-tone it. ...and no, none of the above motorcycles are mine.

Thanks Texas, quick question - are the headlamp buckets different or is solely the the lamp unit?

Thanks Texas, quick question - are the headlamp buckets different or is solely the the lamp unit? It's the whole headlight, (bucket, bezel, lamp assy) except for the mount bracket and a few small incidental parts like screws etc.

It's probably going to be one of the last items I need to fit on the bike so I'll keep hunting. Marauder (and Meanie ones for that matter) are quite expensive and I'm prioritising stuff that I need to build up the bike. I'm getting there, nearly all big ticket items are sourced now, I'm waiting for Payday. (and the two after that as well, at least until I finish fixing up and selling my BUBF, hope to get that finished this weekend now that the base gaskets have arrived).

That was a great response post Texas! Because of it, I now need that VTX headlamp and housing on the Meanie. Is it plug and play compatible?

You have to modify the mounting bracket. There's a couple of different ways to do that...OR buy a mounting bracket You can go on the RF forum and punch in VTX headlight into their search box and get several hits. Here's a thread to get ya started... www.riderforums.com/general-mean-streak/60391-vtx-headlight-install-how-2.html
And I have a VTX headlight assy in excellent condition that I ended up not mounting because it's great looks would be covered up since I run a dark tint V-Stream windshield. I paid 175 plus 20 to ship and that's what I want for it if yer' interested.

Hello Texas - I just sent you a PM about your VTX lamp Cheers Glad ya found one over there! Saves the expense of shipping across the big pond too. I always liked the VTX headlight because of it's uniquely shaped front bezel, and of course it's manly large size. Luv it even more two-toned, making the look of the bezel stand out from the bucket. From a more practical standpoint, it also has a opening underneath the bucket and a large space inside it like the original headlights to hide that glob of wiring.

Mine will be getting the MS SE two colour treatment - satin black bucket and chrome front Bezel, it should be with me in a couple of days. The bucket has some very minor scratches but since I'm going to paint it anyway that doesn't matter.

Just to give ya some ideas, here is a pic of a stock SE headlight that the bezel was done to match the frame color. This used to be Mike G's bike before he sold it. If ya notice in the second pic you will also see that he blacked out the triple tree on the front end. I think he eventually did the chrome rings on the gauges to match the frame color too.
