It is kind of strange, the plugs this time appear dry and, if anything, maybe a bit lean. Nothing like how they appeared last time. Also the running seems a bit rough under load when accelerating, but feels great once up to speed. Kind of the opposite of how it felt before. SOB, man that sucks. Makes no sense to me. Front and rear base gaskets are different, but I am sure you would not mistake that, I will check one thing in the morning, running sluggish seems odd as well.

Yeah, believe me, I thought about mixing up the base gaskets last time around. They're different enough that you'd have a bit of gasket sticking out where the coolant port isn't, and probably a mess of coolant on the engine. Oil too, most likely. Nope, no exterior issues noted here.
I'm really suspicious of something wrong between the cylinder and head, like I mentioned. Some irregularity or crack that I can't see.

So, I'm still looking at this and scratching my head. Drained the oil yesterday, it looked brown with maybe a very little olive-drab-type tinge to it. There was a little sitting in the oil pan all day, and a bunch in my disposal jug, and it seems weird that I don't see any evidence at all of separation of the coolant and oil.
Also, in my genius I had put some fluorescent coolant dye in the radiator and checked the oil with a blacklight. Well, guess what? It turns out that pure, brand-new oil reflects almost exactly the same shade as my used oil. So that test isn't very telling.
The sight glass definitely seemed fuller, and I measured the drained oil at almost exactly 3 litres, when I had added 2.9 (didn't change the filter this last time). That's really the only indicator. I really think something's up, but maybe more research is needed.

Is your coolant level changing???

Is your coolant level changing??? Hard to be sure, I think so but not dramatically. The level was about an inch below the filler neck and it was full before, BUT it was filled with a dry engine. I bled the water pump and bleeder at the neck when I filled it, but the engine would have taken a bit out of it. So I really need to re-fill and check again.

If you are bleeding the coolant, ... how about draining all of it out and replacing it with distilled water. I'm not sure if that would be easier to detect in the oil than the coolant.
If the oil does not turn milky, then drain the water and add coolant.
Just a thought, but have no idea if that would work or be easier to detect.

I was actually considering doing that, talked to somebody today and we suspect that maybe the glycol in the coolant is "oil-like" enough that it doesn't separate.

Fill the bottle cold and mark the bottle and ride several miles and let her cool off over night and recheck level of coolant bottle. A pressure test might give you an idea if it is actually leaking internally
